No, I combine those areas with what they are attached to unless it makes the carpet area over 250 sq. feet, which is really hard to do because most of the time those areas are in the master bedroom.

For me, every week would be great but the correct answer would be every 3-12 months depending on how messy your kids or pets are. If there only adults in the house and you have a no shoe policy, without any pets, you can go 2 years or longer between carpet cleanings.
